PLATFORM

I will continue to work on solutions for today, tomorrow, and the distant future.

Taxes while needed I don't believe in an increase to property taxes every year is the correct approach.

Using data to ensure our public safety departments are staffed and funded appropriately to keep our city safe.

Work towards solutions to move people safely and efficiently.

Continue to grow business to help keep residential taxes lower.
Housing is needed and getting the right housing type in the right areas is critical to the long term.

Working together to create a city the residents desire.

Serving the City of West Jordan has been an honor and privilege, we have seen so many desiring to join our wonderful community. This has not been without it's challenges both to infrastructure and

public services.

Getting the right mix of housing is essential to long term sustainability. High density has it's place  but not everywhere. Transportation continues to be a challenge. And water is a concern for us all.

We have also had some exciting growth with the new additions to our parks the latest being the wheels park. I remember when I first joined the council and a young adult came to share the need for such a venue. The wheels park provides opportunity for all ages to enjoy riding in a safe area.

Many  come daily to enjoy the reimagined Wild West Jordan playground, this was first built by residents. When I joined the council and it had been decided to do a rebuild, I wanted to ensure we got it right. Judging by the use and comments I am happy to say we did.

We continue to see new businesses come to West Jordan and I will continue to work to bring the services our residents desire.

Honoring our past and looking to the future with strategic planning is essential and I have the skills to help continue us on a path to a bright future.

LIST OF ISSUES
Fiscal Responsibility: Saving Residents Money

While many want to hear no taxes (me included) I won't make promises that I may not be able to keep. What I will promise:

*To treat your money as if it were my own.

*To be conservative, putting needs above wants.

*To look for ways to save money and continue to improve the financial health of the city.

I will be frugal and remember that it is not my money to throw around. If you look at my voting record you will see I vote very conservatively. I focus on city needs. I will continually look for ways to save money and improve the financial health of the city. During budget season I look for ways to cut and save. Looking for out-of-the-box ways to save is another way I will keep taxes low. While serving on the Jordan School board I suggested a new way to send out bid proposals that ended up with a large savings. In fact we built Mountain Ridge High School for the same dollar amount per square foot as Herriman High, even though it was years later. While on the council I helped find a bond that we could pay off early and save tax payer dollars.

Housing

Affordable housing is something we all desire. How we get there and what that looks like is sometimes a challenge. One concern I have that I want to continue to work on is ensuring that we as a city with a large land mass of undeveloped land, develop in the best way for West Jordan. Sometimes this means saying no to developers. I have and will continue to listen to and work with residents for developments near their homes. Many bought homes in single family neighborhoods and they desire to keep that feel around them. Higher density is needed, but not in all areas. We had a development that I voted no on and as soon as it was entitled it was sold and will now be a community of rental homes. Rentals are needed, but to continue to have a way for people to gain wealth home ownership is essential. I will continue to work on ways to facilitate affordable owner owned housing.

Transportation

*Work with and develop good working relationships with UDOT, UTA, and Wasatch Front Regional Council

We must work with the state to improve and develop our transportation needs. While serving, I have attended many meetings where state road infrastructure is discussed to ensure our voice was heard. Something I have started sharing is that we need an I-15 7800 south exit. Some say "oh that won't happen", well if we never talk about it they are correct. We must look long term and while we might wish we could teleport or fly, that is a long way out,  I will continue to  work on solutions for today, tomorrow, and the distant future. This issue will continue to need work and input from residents and our elected representatives on all levels.

Land Use:

With the most undeveloped land in the Salt Lake Valley, West Jordan has unlimited possibilities and potential.   We must develop with the future in mind. A crisis today should not dictate the long term, panic planning won't create a long term sustainable cities. Many citizens have donated their time working on the general plan. Developing our city for what is best for our city and its residents and businesses is my objective. We must utilize what we have and look at the general plan when deciding zone changes.  Sometimes the best thing you can say is, "No today for a better tomorrow."  We need to carefully balance housing densities, to ensure we have something for all income levels.  While serving I have pushed back on density when it didn't make sense, and worked with developers to increase commercial square footage in their plans.  Working with developers to create a win-win is the way we create a better tomorrow.

We as a city need more clean commercial development.  Homeowners pay 55% of their properties value while business pays 100%, in addition, they pay tax on many items inside their business. To keep our residents' taxes lower, we need land dedicated to innovative commercial development.  During my time on the council, I have worked with staff to create a business-friendly environment to bring in commercial development for the future. Commercial square footage has increased by over 5 million square feet since 2018.  I will continue to work with economic development to attract those businesses our citizens express a desire to have in our city.

Public Safety
I have and will continue to work with police and fire to ensure our public safety team is staffed with the best people to do the job as public servants. I have also pushed to ensure that we have an emergency plan and working on supplies for that plan. We now have items that when a major incident happens the city is better prepared to help. We also offer classes so individuals and families can learn to be prepared.
I have encouraged and brought forward the need to increase our code enforcement department to ensure our city stays a place where people feel safe and businesses want to locate in.
